Polypropylene-based Multilayer Plastic Waste Utilization on Bitumen Modification for Hot-Mixed Asphalt Application: Preliminary Study

Plastic waste that has not been appropriately managed caused concern for various stakeholders and a negative impact on the environment. A way to minimize this issue is by promoting circular economy through recycling. Despite this, many plastic wastes cannot be economically recycled; one of them multilayer plastics due difficulty in sorting out types materials contained layers. As an alternative, it may possible utilize as bitumen mixture; method avoid separation process entirely. Bitumen component asphalt, which crucial construction infrastructure. Plastics can potentially enhance properties modified bitumen, they would assist enhancing quality asphalt. The aim study examine fabricated hot-mixing process. To compatibility between hydrophobic hydrophilic lignin was used compatibilizer. with 3, 4, 5 wt.% mixing times 15, 30, 45 minutes were evaluated. Accordingly, surface, chemical, thermal properties, morphology evaluated using sessile drop tests, Fourier Transform Infrared, thermogravimetry analysis, scanning electron microscopy.
